Teso Widows Development Initiative
TEWIDI is a non-profit organization based in the Eastern region of Uganda. Founded by a widow, our mission is to enhance the living conditions of widows and their orphaned children, especially within the Teso community. We are dedicated to providing support, resources, and opportunities to improve the quality of life for these vulnerable groups.
Why was TEWIDI founded?
Following years of invasion by the Lord’s Resistance Army in the Teso region, many men were recruited to assist soldiers in combating the rebel group. Homes were attacked and looted, and numerous men lost their lives defending their families and community. This left widows and orphans with little hope, as most women in the community were uneducated and lacked the means to support themselves and their children.
A widow (Beatrice Omese) arose and by faith in GOD, began Teso widows development initiative – TEWIDI. As of today, it has helped over 30,000 widows improve their standards of living by empowering them in various activities, trainings and agricultural support.

TEWIDI received a tractor from President Yoweri Museveni to support over 36,000 widows in Teso Sub Region. Christine Emaju, the widow’s representative from Kaberamaido, said that the tractor has been their major concern to enable the widows to plough and cultivate on time. She said the tractor will help boost food security at the household level and commercial agriculture.
